Just last month, Spirit Airlines has announced that it would charge $10 for the second bag. But it seems, there’s another roll out of changes coming the passengers’ way. The following changes have been announced, effectively making the airline a European-style discount carrier:
- A flat fee of $5 for each checked bag up to 50 lbs. if it is arranged in advance online;
- A flat fee of $10 for each checked bag up to 50 lbs. if it is arranged by the time you arrive at the airport;
- First class seats are downgraded to premium economy, and there’s no more free booze;
- All beverages including soda, coffee, and juice has a charge of $1. Only water is free.
All of these changes are aimed towards ‘reducing cost’. According to airline officers, converting the plane into a one-class courier ensures that all passengers are provided better and equal service, which to me by the way doesn’t even make sense.
