Code of Ethics
Pretty simple, actually: I don’t post things I don’t believe. All content is editorial, never pay-to-play. I’ve never been paid to promote a product or service in my writings. If I like something, I praise it for free. If I don’t like something… that’s free too.
The site receives remuneration from advertising on the site. Advertisements do not affect editorial content. Ads are served by Google, Yahoo!, Linkshare, Commission Junction, or others. Ad content is generated by these companies, often on the basis of a search of blog post content. Some images are affiliate marketing ads, generated randomly. However, I never recommend a company because of an affiliate relationship. A list of companies that I have affiliate relationships with, and whose ads may appear on the site, can be found on the “Support this Site” page.
Privacy Policy
Mostly simple, too: Upgrade: Travel Better does not keep any information about visitors who browse to the site. The only information we may keep is the e-mail we receive. Tips, opinions, or other messages e-mailed to the site owner may be published. If you do not wish to have your messages publicized, you are welcome to indicate that you wish your comments to be kept private. I respect all such requests. I adopt a journalistic policy regarding sources: if confidentiality is requested, it is respected as far as legally permissible.
Leaving a comment on the site requires an e-mail address. (The WordPress publishing system requires e-mail addresses for commenters, in part to reduce spam.) These e-mails are kept in the blog database, but will never be used for any marketing purpose. Please note that we are not responsible for the content of other users’ comments written as responses to posts.
Prior to November 2006, Upgrade: Travel Better was hosted at the address http://upgradetravel.blogspot.com/. Blogspot is owned by Google. Therefore, if you previously browsed to the “legacy” version of this site, then Google’s privacy policy applies.
The ads appearing on this site are delivered to users by Google, Yahoo, Commission Junction, Linkshare, Blogads, or other services. Information about users’ visit to this site, such as number of times they have viewed an ad (but not username, date of birth, or any other personal information), may be used by advertising content providers to serve ads to users on this site. Upgrade: Travel Better only receives aggregate information (e.g., number of clicks) about visitors who click advertisements. We never receive any individually-identifiable or specific information about ad-click-throughs.
Like all websites we receive log information about visitors. We also employ third party analytics software such as Google Analytics. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, etc. IP addresses, etc. are never linked to personally identifiable information. Some analytics software may use cookies. We may use a tracking utility that uses log files to analyze this aggregate data. Curious to see what we see? Click the SiteMeter icon in the sidebar on any page.
Finally, the site uses links to third parties. The privacy policies of target sites apply there.
