Now, a standard United award cost 55k ONE WAY. That's slashing the values of miles in half, isn't it? Yet, "star alliance" awards are 55k round trip. I booked roundtrip to Europe just last week using United miles, and it cost me 55,000. The Saver level awards and Star Alliance tickets are still 55,000 roundtrip. I'll have to keep that in mind when booking my next ticket, especially because I don't have enough miles right now for a full award ticket. I think on the balance it will be a good program, especially with the one way awards. It's too bad about the extra fees, though. They'll get you any way they can, right?
