No, not THAT kind of Brazilian. The Republicans rolled out the jet that VP hopeful Sarah Palin will be using on the campaign: An Embraer 190, built in Brazil.
What, not buying American? No pandering to the Boeing vote? I suppose they’ve written off Washington State already.
I’m not sure how much mileage the Obama campaign could get out of this, but the “outsourcing” theme is ready-made.
Not to mention fodder for puerile jokes!

Great catch…this is sad.

Well, can’t say that I blame her. The 190 is much more fuel efficient than the next best Boeing model.
But I do have to say…I saw the title and you got me all excited, seriously, don’t do that to me, I was expecting pictures.

Love how this turns from a travel blog into a quasi-palin-wanna-be-pundit blog. Can you just stick to the travel info? Please? It’s normally informative.

Best headline yet! Keep up the good work.

No one is going to touch the “Buy American” argument, since no aircraft is 100% American built anymore, not even good old Boeing. Aircraft components are built all over the world, so no one can make the American Built claim. The Embraer E190 has components from GE Engines, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Goodrich, Hamilton Sundstrand, Parker Aerospace and Alcoa, among others. And I thought the Palin stuff was relevant, since we covered it in Aviation Week too. Keep up the great work, Mark.

What you say is doubtlessly true, Benet, but remember: we’re dealing with heartland America, which sees the world in black and white. WHERE it was built is all this mindset cares about; the rest is subtlty beyond its attention span. Good cal, Mark. These are the little bits of hypocrisy that the Obama campaign has to mercilessly nail the Republican smear machine on…

Benet, while I agree that it’s silly to look at the origins of airplanes these days, it’s a standard that’s applied to candidates’ cars (name one US politician who drives a “foreign” car?), so why not their planes? If this were Obama’s plane, you’d be hearing about it on Fox News, for sure.
Oh, and Mark, this post should be reported to the FTC for false advertising.

Well done. Thank you for your site.
Exactly a plane is mosaic of countries, shame on the “buy American”, they don’t know what they are talking about…

Very funny title…way to make someone look!
