The author said: "And while I am no fan of the TSA, I’m less of a fan of walking around public spaces surrounded by people carrying loaded firearms."

This shows surprising ignorance. A good person carrying a gun is still a good person and will not suddenly have the desire to hurt anyone around him or her. The only difference is that person can not only defend themselves from a violent lunatic, but the unarmed author as well who'd rather be a dead victim, then suffer the frighting idea of not knowing who around him is armed.

As someone mentioned, the author already is surrounded by good citizens who are armed - the rate being about 1 out of 100 people in shall issue states.

But, if in the desire to "feel safe" rather than "be safe", the authors wish is achieved and nobody is allowed to carry a concealed weapon, then the only people who will be carrying loaded weapons, as the author put it, will be criminals. And so the author then will know who is armed around him - only the criminals who do in fact have ill intent, and are grateful to the author for disarming their victims.

I don't really see the problem. If you've ever been to, I don't know, a parking lot or a grocery store in the US, you've been around a bunch of people carrying loaded firearms. Have you ever seen a shooting in that context? Do you think a ban would keep people who wanted to shoot up an airport from doing so? It's already illegal to shoot *a person*, so I can't imagine the marginal worry of violating a concealed weapons law would stop the perp!

Of course this is only on the "non secure" side of the airport... you know the side where in LA some nut job opened fire on the check-in desk for ELAL.

Also the same side where you are required to check your firearms for transport. Some of the news outlets make it sound like its on both sides of the airport.
