2008-travvies-160square.jpgBEST INFORMATIVE/PRACTICAL TRAVEL BLOG

This award goes to a travel blog that provides news, commentary, advice, or general insight into the workings of travel. Informative, and useful: You learn from such a blog. Unlike a destination blog or a personal narrative from a trip, this category is more practically minded.

You may nominate UP TO THREE BLOGS by leaving a comment in this post. (Click here to do so.) If your favorite has been nominated already, feel free to show your love and nominate it again, though a blog only needs to be nominated once to be in contention.

Note: The comment form automatically asks for name, e-mail address, website (optional), and a text field. E-mail addresses will never be shared or visible publicly, in keeping with our privacy policy. Enter all nominations in the text field. Use the “website” field only if you are linking back to your own site.

  1. Bob Cowen Says:

I believe that my web site (www.InternetTravelTips.com) is the most imformative site for the broadest range of travelers. It’s non-commercial with “bottom line” content. I strive to make it the most useful travel information with the fewest mouse clicks.

Cranky always has the info before it hits the terminal. Who else took the time to map out how all the airline assingments at Heathrow terminals would be changing?

  3. Sean O'Neill Says:

Alas, Consumerist, which has had some great coverage, isn’t travel-focused and apparently doesn’t qualify.

http://travel-babel.blogspot.com is a constant pleasure–a combination of practical information and the fun of reading about an experienced and intrepid traveler’s adventures. It’s reliable in content, written by a travel writer of many years, and new posts appear almost daily to keep you coming back!

    I love the CrankyFlier.

  11. Thalia Says:

It’s tough to write an informative travel blog for China, even if you can read Chinese (which is rare enough as it is) the information you’re looking for is rarely centralized. Here are ones that manage to provide useful information all in one manageable place.

Gotta go with Cranky! He has the knowledge and experience as a former airline employee, is still an airline nerd and gets all the info out to us first. Go Brett!

  14. Matt Scranton Says:

I nominate TheChonx.com, by far the most informative website on a city everyone should know about and visit. Furthermore, a model for what a good travel information website should be. TheChonx.com all the way!

  15. Lea Woodward Says:

I nominate Location Independent - which is my blog about being able to live and work from anywhere (so a lifestyle of permanent travel) and also has a sister-site with destination guides for those who do the same thing.

  21. Whitney Says:

I have this blog on my Google alerts. I went on my first small ship cruise to Alaska about 2 years ago, and swore that I would never go on a big ship cruise after that. This blog is solely dedicated to small ship cruising, which makes it unique.

  22. William Says:

Sunstone Tours and Cruises blog is great for small ship and adventure cruising. I gave up big ships years ago and this blog keeps me up to date.

  23. Derek Kolb Says:

There’s tons of information out there about the standard ‘tour group’ cities in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Chengdu) but very little about what else China has to offer. As someone who lived in Chongqing for over two years, I would recommend it to anyone with time to spare on her next visit to China. This website brings together more information than you’ll find in any book from a local’s perspective!

  24. Debbie Says:

    I nominate my site, http://www.deliciousbaby.com.

I blog about traveling with kids and provide inspirational travel stories, tons of practical advice, and family friendly city guides for cities around the world.

  25. ESAPB Says:

I’ll third or fourth or fifth or whatever Cranky.
