Upgraded: Inflight internet on Southwest
I’m convinced 2009 will be the year inflight internet really takes off, but 2008 is the year of inflight internet rollouts. Next to announce: Southwest! Partnering with Row 44, the airline plans to roll out inflight wi-fi — including VPN access, which is a plus for those hoping to hook up to the company network — in four planes this summer. So how about power outlets? Which leads us to…
Downgraded: London Heathrow Terminal 5
New terminal? Great! But the new facility has no power outlets for public use! What were they thinking? Clearly not designed with travelers in mind.
Downgraded: Non-EU residents on Ryanair
European zero-frills powerhouse Ryanair charges extra fees if you don’t check in online. But they don’t permit non-EU and non-EEA passport-holders to check in online. That’s most everyone in the world who’s getting a surtax. Oh sure, you can apply for a refund, but the burden is on you, the traveler. Lovely, as always, Ryanair. See here for the scoop.

You know, it’s really not RyanAir I hate. It’s the idiots who continue to use them, encouraging their ridiculous stunts. If people weren’t so cheap, products of all sorts would be better. If I need to get from one place to another within Europe, I’ll spend the extra euros on high speed rail and probably still get to my destination quicker.

Ryanair really need to throw us a bone here, they should be providing a customer service not creating an ‘extra fee for this and a extra fee for that’ nighmare which is what it is steadly turning into.

But the thing is, Jamman, they won’t! Idiot customers continue to use RyanAir no matter what surcharges and atrocious customer service they slap on. Look at how Bank of America works. Same basic principle. Too many people are far too inert to find the alternative.

Not sure that it would be worthwhile for Southwest to add power outlets. Most of their flights are within the runtime of my laptop battery.

I would like to complain against Ryanair discriminatory policy towards non-EU passport holders as well, whom they refuse online check-in without any logical reason. Their competitors, like Easyjet, Airberlin, etc. do not have such a discriminatory policy and the visa checking argument is nothing more than ridiculous! In decent airlines the airport staff does it at the gate without any problems! And the EU laws give equal rights to EU residents and spouses of the EU citizens, which makes Ryanair pure discriminators. I and my other numerous friends are starting a campaign against their discriminatory policy in EU authorities and various other anti-discriminatory organizations to add as many tonnes of stones to their sinking ship as possible! Please follow suit and complain anywhere you can!
