I have found most UK homes to be tiny with what Americans would regard as primitive amenities.

So Travelodge is probably just fine.

We spend a month each year in the UK visiting family who all live in homes too small for guests. We have found Travelodge to be a bargain at 15 pound per night, especially with the US dollar decline. I would describe them as a Scandinavian modern, minimalist design. In most areas, away the big cities, they are very clean and have great showers. For people who want character, this is not the place.
