Many airports allow you to carry on (duty free) liquids if bought after security. I have bought water bottles a few times at SFO and brought them on board international flights (no one re-screens after you're in the sterile part of the airport).

I did see one person run into trouble in FRA after bringing duty free bottles from SFO and trying to connect to another flight there. The unlucky person had to pass through security again and was forced to abandon the sealed duty free bag.

Me, I have never felt the desire to buy duty free at airports. Just another thing I have to schlepp through the airports, and if it's a liquid, it can break... Are the savings really worth the hassle?

just like TSA agents, it depends on the airport and the person you deal with. for those airports where the Duty Free person will bring the items directly to your gate, it hasn't been an issue for me.

of course, you never know...like that TSA agent who classified a pumpkin pie as a "liquid."
