I have bought water bottles a few times at SFO and brought them on board international flights (no one re-screens after you're in the sterile part of the airport). I did see one person run into trouble in FRA after bringing duty free bottles from SFO and trying to connect to another flight there. The unlucky person had to pass through security again and was forced to abandon the sealed duty free bag. Me, I have never felt the desire to buy duty free at airports. Just another thing I have to schlepp through the airports, and if it's a liquid, it can break... Are the savings really worth the hassle?
