I only wish I had seen this before we booked on British Airways last week. The pre-assigned seats came as a complete shock, as it was not mentioned anywhere prior to booking. True, I could have spent hours researching and every airline policy, but seriously... who has time.

To make matters worse, BA is one of the very few airlines that has no 24 hour period rescission policy. So that when you discover (only after booking) that they want $38 per leg per ticket to simply pick a cheap seat, there is nothing you can do but pay their extra fee.

Imagine traveling as a family, and imagine the idea of ending up in middle seats scattered throughout the airplane. It is simply unacceptable, especially with a daughter who is nervous of flying.

I had booked on BA due to loyalty and previous customer oriented experience over many years. I say this rather emphatically, I shall not fly BA again. BA has proven that their priority is profit, and not customer care.

I just travelled BA EWR-LHR-EWR and at the time of booking bizclass I was NOT aware I could not physically reserve a seat for me and the wife. Unless I paid USD 90.00 each person, each leg i.e. $360.00 I would have had to wait until 24 hours before the flight departure to get a seat assigned. That is the mosy biggest crock of crap ever heard. I travel Thai Continental, EVA Airways - all bizclass and ALWAYS get seat selection and with no charge. I sent a complaint to BA and gues what they had the donkey balls to say, I had selected exit row seats and that is why I paid a premium. Hello????? I was in 1 A and 1 B outbound (B767 EWR-LHR) -no firclass that a/c, and those seats are NOT exit row. On return I had 11J and 11K, again NOT exit row seats(B777) LHR-EWR. Do they think I am stupid? I have again written back explaining that I booked Bizclass and no obvious emergency exit rows in the cabin only up front and behind the bizclass cabin.

I think I made a big mistake in buying BA ticket. After buying the ticket I tried to select the seats, but to my horror there was no provision. At the same moment I selected the seat in American Airlines for my onward travel. There is no differentiation of the class. It looks like the British Airways is still a century behind than others and has not come out of the colonial mindset.

A great way to make some additional money is all I can say. Totally disrespectful behaviour for an airline.

Avoid and beware of British Airways. I paid over $4,500 for tickets to Budapest. Only to find BA wants to charge me each flight (4 total flights x 3 tickets) for early seat assignments - up to 30 bucks an assignment! Outrageous! I booked months in advance. This was never disclosed. Never again, BA, will you get my business - I could have picked another airline, paid a little more and saved in the long run. I have children - we would like to sit together. I hope you go bankrupt! Any class action suites for an unfair disclosure policy, count me in! However, if we are forced to sit apart, I will sue deep pockets if any stranger touches my 11 year old daughter or son on the flight! Obviously I, like hundreds of other passengers, will try to get assignments 24 hours in advance but if we don't sit together I am going to have the manager sign liability for their well-being before I depart.

I, too, got burned on this - it was only after I had booked the flights to Houston that I discovered that I couldn't pick seats. Talking to the customer service people, they claimed that this is the norm for the industry. Fiddling with Expedia, I see that BA is the only larger company that can not give me the seat charts. I fly to the US a lot, and I never go BA anymore. Just pick another option, my preference is KLM/NW. If enough people do this, BA may change (although I doubt it).
