Thought you could avoid TSA security checks by riding the rails? Think again.
The TSA has started searching random passengers at Buffalo, New York train stations, wanding people for explosives. If you refuse, you’re banned from the station, and from traveling on Amtrak.
Searches aren’t random, but “risk-based.” For now, it’s only an experiment through the end of November, but other rail stations across the country should expect similar spot-checks over the coming months. How long before the first incident of ethnic profiling?

I can’t imagine that the first incident of racial profiling hasn’t already happened . . .

Why hasn’t it happened? It makes sense to search more of those who are most likely to be carrying bombs.
If a bomb goes off at Buffalo, would it be a valid defence to say ‘I saw that suspicios-acting person in a turban, but as I had just searched a Muslim I was afraid of losing my job if I searched another one, so I picked on an 87-year old couple from Arkansas instead. Sorry about the 37 people who just died, but at least I didn’t ruffle the feathers or racial offend the bomber.”
Liberal ideals are all well and good, but can’t we keep them out of the real world, where they can cause real harm?

Lame. Nobody’s trying to bomb Buffalo. You people are paranoid.
