Not exactly breaking news (see this, err, vintage article…) but a good idea nonetheless. Save yourself the buck seventy five by listening to a 10-second advertisement. 1-800-FREE-411.

Hey, I guess this is an update on the update, but I just learned that 1-800-Free411 does category search now (details: http://www.free411.com/about/pressreleases/p20070320), so if you don’t have a specific listing in mind, you can go ahead and call and search by category — “restaurants” or “record stores,” etc.

    Cheers,

Discovered a better directory assistance:1800411SAVE. I saved the number on my cell phone, the only place I willingly use directory assistance now that some carriers charge up to $2.50.I was able to get accurate information from a live operator and was able to receive an SMS in a jiffy.

Ive been through all these directory assistance calls, and it really a burden losing $2 per call. My friend just told me about 1-800-411-SAVE being free. At first, I hardly believe it. But after several trials, I couldnt agree more. There was really no charge and believe me.. I talked to a real person. This is simply amazing!

There’s another great provider of directory assistance! If you are in canada and in need of a phone number in Canada or in the US, ASK411 is the best provider. You can get a phone number thru SMS. Just type in the request along with the city and state/province and send it to 275411. This service is free until the 31st. Rates will only go up to 50 cents per text after the free period!
